Fractional CMO and part-time marketing director for BC, Alberta and Canada

A fractional CMO, made to measure.

You need someone senior steering your marketing, but a full-time executive isn’t in the budget. That’s exactly where I come in. You get 25+ years of strategy, leadership, and hands-on know-how for a fraction of the cost.

I work hourly or on a monthly retainer, with no salary, no benefits, and no long-term hiring risk.

The short answer

What is a fractional CMO?

A fractional CMO is a senior marketing executive who works with your business part time, usually for a set number of hours each month.

You get the strategy, leadership, and accountability of a chief marketing officer without paying a full-time salary. I set the direction, lead the people doing the work, and when it makes sense, I roll up my sleeves and do it myself.

In plain English

Think of it as having a seasoned marketing boss on your team for exactly the hours you need, and not a minute more.

Same role, different titles

Fractional CMO or part-time marketing director?

In practice, they’re the same role. A fractional CMO, a part-time marketing director and an outsourced CMO are all senior marketing leaders who work with your business part time, for a set number of hours each month.

Larger companies tend to say fractional CMO, while many small and mid-sized businesses in BC and Alberta look for a part-time marketing director. Either way, you get one experienced person who owns the plan, leads the people doing the work, and answers for the results.

Also known as

Fractional CMO, part-time marketing director, fractional marketing director, part-time CMO, and outsourced CMO. An interim CMO is slightly different, because it usually means a full-time stand-in while you recruit a permanent hire.

A quick word about AI tools

AI tools are cheap. Your time isn’t.

I get it. Every week there’s a new AI tool promising to write your ads, build your website, and run your social media for twenty bucks a month. It feels like a smart way to save money.

But by the time you’ve poked around, watched the tutorials, and learned what not to do the hard way, I could have had your analytics, creative, campaigns, and strategy set up and running. I use AI every day. A tool without the big picture just helps you make mistakes faster.

How I work

I work hourly or on a monthly retainer, whichever suits your business best. Either way, you get senior leadership and only pay for the time you actually need.

How it works

Your first 90 days, stitch by stitch.

Every business is different, so we’ll tailor this to yours. But here’s what the first three months usually look like.

Fractional CMO FAQ

Questions I hear most.

What does a fractional CMO do?

A fractional CMO sets your marketing strategy, builds the plan and budget, leads the people and agencies doing the work, and is accountable for the results. The difference from a full-time CMO is that you only pay for the hours you need.

How much does a fractional CMO cost in Canada?

I work hourly or on a monthly retainer, and the rate depends on the scope of work. We agree up front on a monthly block of hours, so there are no surprises and you only pay for the time you actually need.

How many hours a month will I need?

It depends on your goals and how much hands-on work you want me to take on. Some businesses need a few hours a month of strategy and oversight, while others want me leading and executing across several channels. We’ll figure out the right amount on our first call.

Can you work with my existing team or agency?

Yes, and many of my clients do exactly that. I give your team and agencies clear direction, set priorities, and make sure everyone is working from the same plan and the same numbers.

Will you do the work yourself or just advise?

Both. I can stay at the strategy level, lead the people who do the work, or roll up my sleeves and execute it myself. Most clients use a mix, and we can change it as your needs change.

What’s the difference between a fractional CMO and a marketing consultant?

A consultant usually advises on a specific project and hands it back to you. A fractional CMO takes ongoing ownership of your marketing, sets the strategy, leads the people doing the work, and is accountable for the results.

How quickly will I see results?

You’ll usually see quick wins within the first couple of months, like accurate tracking and better-performing campaigns. Brand building and SEO take longer to build momentum, but they keep paying off long after the work is done.

Do you work with businesses outside BC?

Yes. Most of my clients are in British Columbia, especially the Okanagan Valley, and I also work with businesses in Alberta, including Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer. I work remotely with established businesses across Canada and help Canadian brands expand into the United States.

Is a fractional CMO the same as a part-time marketing director?

Yes, for most businesses the two titles describe the same role: a senior marketing leader who works with you part time. I set the strategy, manage the budget and the people doing the work, and report on results, just as a full-time marketing director would.

Do you meet with clients in person?

Yes. I meet clients in person across the Okanagan, including Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland and Vernon, and I work by video with businesses in the rest of BC, Alberta and Canada. See how I work with Okanagan businesses.
